    Wind Quest
    Log for the Wind Quest:

The adventurers were instructed to travel southeast from Mallboro to a ruined shack in the middle of nowhere. As they arrived, they noticed a fatigued-looking Chaos standing next to one of his black-robed minions. The minion's baggy clothes, hooded face, and somewhat androgynous body type made it impossible to identify the minion's gender. Chaos informed the adventurers that, due to exhaustion from the near constant questing and the fact that he was still weak from being awoken, his minion would be taking over leadership of this quest. At that point Chaos left, and his minion wordlessly turned and continued southeast, motioning for the adventurers to follow.

As they traveled, the land grew steadily flatter and the vegetation more sparse. Before long the adventurers found themselves amidst an endless, featureless plain, with nothing but a few tufts of scraggly grass to break the monotony. Eventually even the grass was gone, leaving nothing but an expanse of rocky desert as far as they could see. The wind gained in power and ferocity, whipping dust in all directions.

Soon the ground began sloping downwards, entering into a wide, deep canyon with red sandstone walls. Inside the canyon, the wind no longer blew randomly, but now pushed steadily at the group's backs. Tiny little canyons, too narrow to admit a person, joined with the main canyon, increasing the strength of the wind like creeks feeding into a river. Above the canyon was a swirling torrent of dust and wind so thick it partially blocked the sky.

At what appeared to be the end of the canyon was a tornado of dust thousands of feet high. The minion walked just short of the tornado and indicated that the adventurers should wait. He (or she) entered a small alcove in the canyon wall. The minion paused and took a folded sheet of paper out of his pocket and examined it. The minion counted his steps from a specific point, turned, and checked the wall. He reached out and pulled at a seemingly random rock. The rock fell out of place, revealing a small nook with a switch inside. He flipped the switch and in less than a minute, the tornado sputtered out and died. The wind in the canyon, however, was not affected and remained fierce as ever.

With the tornado gone, it was possible to see that the canyon fed into a large, empty, circular area with seven other canyons branching off from the central area like spokes on a wheel. At the dead center of the open area was a massive cylindrical building made of sandstone, its walls extending up almost as high as the canyon walls. There was an archway at the front of the building, and the minion walked towards it, motioning for the adventurers to follow.

The structure was hollow inside and had no ceiling, allowing the adventurers to see the whirling sandstorm that raged above them. The walls were smooth and sandy. In the middle was a heavy pedestal, and atop that was a statue of a man. The statue wore elaborate body armor and a fierce face carved in a permanent scowl. Most notably, it also had four arms. Each of its top two arms carried a stone sword, the blades crossed above its head. Its bottom right hand wore a glove and was balled into a tight fist. Its bottom left hand was open, with the palm facing the sky.

On the pedestal, in bold, unmistakable letters were the words:

    Battle Royale Update #1

    LAGUNA!

    [Run translation program]

Kinda swamped here. Between running the mall as usual and keeping track of the game, things are a bit hectic. But whatever, you don't care about that. So I'm here to update stats and post news and whatnot.

Today started a little slow. We thought we were going to have a bad day, but the mass of killings that erupted after most of the customers left made for some interesting TV. NORG is pleased and demands that the violence continue. He's enjoying this a bit too much.

Anyway, here's the list of the dead people.

Kain, President Shinra, Heidegger, Scarlet, Palmer, Ashelia (MIA, presumed killed by Ba'Gamnan, but no cameras witnessed the event), Amarant, Zidane, Xu, Dr. Kadowaki, and Ma Dincht.

Which gives us the nice one-day total of 11 people killed! Hooray!

And since Sephiroth killed 4 of those people, he is today's winner of Highest Kill Count! His prize: a one day pass to leave Mallboro. It isn't much to start, but the prizes get better as the week goes on. All day tomorrow (and only tomorrow, no negotations or date changes), Sephiroth is free to leave Mallboro grounds without exploding. He can do whatever he wants outside the mall, but still has to obey the rules when he comes back in, including the No Weapons policy.

And the next item on the list is the List of Areas Barred from Access. All locations specified in this list are OFF LIMITS and cannot be entered. If you are already in one of these locations, you collar will start to beep, at which point you have five minutes to vacate the area. For the sake of a gentle start to the game, NORG has chosen areas that are not heavily populated. He also picked them in groups so that it's easier to remember what areas are locked.

Anyway: All Unoccupied stores by Fountain 1 are now barred from access. To be specific, that includes lots 3-5, 8, 9, 121-126, 112-119, and 111. Also Department Store 1 is blocked too, but who ever goes there?

Next item is Most Productive Employee. We've decided that Captain Adelbert Steiner is today's most productive employee. I tried to argue with NORG that Steiner's job as mall security kinda bleeds into everything else, so he has a bit of an advantage on that front, but NORG was adamant. He says that while everyone else was busy protecting themselves or killing others, Steiner was protecting the mall and doing his job. I argued that, by that logic, Steiner is going to win every day. NORG made that bujurururu noise at me and ignored me.

Anyway, Steiner gets a "Get Out of Exploding Free" card. This one-time-use item will last until Steiner chooses to use it and will keep his collar from exploding once. Which means that he is free to break any rule that would normally result in his death. Note that regular old killing is still very effective on Steiner, so he's hardly immortal. Dunno what he's gonna do with it, but whatever. The prizes will only get better from here.

Oh look! Fine print! Ooohhhhhh.... it seems that the Get Out of Exploding card works on whoever is holding it. Plus, it remains active until used, even if the holder dies! Holy crap, what a lousy prize! I mean, talk about a target on the back. Sorry Bert ol' buddy.

So I think that's it for today. See you all tomorrow!
